Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) celebrated 10 years of empowering women and women organizations through the use of ICTs on 1st and 2nd June 2010 at Hotel Africana in Kampala, Uganda. Among the activities to mark the celebrations, was a one week SMS awareness campaign which took place from 24th to 29th May 2010, a two day exhibition and a one day symposium.           In attendance was Mr. Ambrose Ruyoka, Commissioner, Ministry of ICT, who represented the Honorable State Minister of ICT Hon.  2.      WOUGNET-ACCENTURE partnership

In July 2010, WOUGNET and ACCENTURE  started a partnership under the Hivos STAR 11 program.  The main purpose was to strengthen WOUGNET as a non-profit organization for future self sustainability. This was made possible with support from Humanistic Institute for Development -Hivos, which is WOUGNET’s  core development partner. After a week long think-tank  meetings between parties from ACCENTURE and WOUGNET in July. A consensus was reached to strengthen WOUGNET through three core pillars.

ü  The Foundation Pillar

ü  Education Pillar

ü  Communication Pillar

These pillars cut across the four program areas of WOUGNET ; (i) Information sharing and Networking, (ii) Technical Support, (iii) Gender and ICT policy advocacy and Institutional Development.

3.      WOUGNET on 1% club:

Through the partnership with ACCENTURE, one of the sustainability measures was for WOUGNET to develop and diversify funding streams. A WOUGNET Training Centre proposal was developed under the Technical support programme and was accepted for the 1%CLUB and can be accessed  online at http://onepercentclub.com/projects/wougnetcentre.  The project whose focus is on ‘Community Development through Technology’ will provide skills through training to members of the community of Kampala. The primary target are women. This will enable the trainees to be able to solve social and economic challenges faced using appropriate technologies.
