Dr. Angela Nakafeero- Member
Dr. Angela Nakafeero is currently serving as the Commissioner of Gender and Women Affairs at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development. As a Commissioner, she spearheads the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Uganda Gender Policy, plans and programmes aimed at achieving gender equality and women empowerment.
She is the chair of the recently established Covid-19 sub-committee on Gender Based Violence and Violence Against Children in Uganda. She is a member of the International Advisory Group for the None in Three (NI3), a global research initiative of Huddersfield University with the UK Government on ending GBV through pro-social gaming. She is a member of the National SDG Technical Committee. She holds an Honorary Doctorate from the Huddersfield University- UK.
Dr. Angela serves on the board of the Anti-Corruption Coalition of Uganda (ACCU) as the Treasurer, co- chair of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (AU STC GEWE) and she chairs several technical committees in Uganda.
Dr. Angela was the Gender Technical Advisor at Ministry of Education and Sports, and spearheaded the development and implementation of the National Strategic Plan on elimination of Violence Against Children in Schools (2015-2020), development and operationalisation of the reporting, tracking, referral and response guidelines on violence against children in schools, the review of the Gender in Education Policy (2007) and development of training manuals. She was the Programme Coordinator for the Parliamentary Gender Budget Programme (2011-2013) which contributed to the adoption of gender and equity responsive budgeting as a key practice under the Public Finance Management Act (2015).
She has served on many committees and Board of Directors including the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative Global Advisory Committee (UNGEI GAC), Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE), Development Alternatives (DELTA) and Forum for African Women Educationalists Uganda (FAWE-U). Dr. Angela’s passion is gender equality and women’s empowerment agenda.
