WOUGNET 2025 Annual Report
The year 2025 marked a transformative and impactful period for the Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET), defined by significant strides in advancing gender equality and digital inclusion in Uganda and beyond. Across all four quarters, WOUGNET demonstrated resilience, innovation, and strategic leadership in empowering women and girls to meaningfully access, use, and shape digital technologies. Through its integrated programming in Gender and ICT Policy Advocacy, Technical Support, and Information Sharing and Networking, the organisation strengthened its role as a leading voice at the intersection of gender, technology, and human rights.
A central pillar of WOUGNET’s work this year was advancing digital rights awareness and advocacy, particularly for women, girls, and women human rights defenders (WHRDs). Through sustained engagement with policymakers, civil society actors, and regional and global platforms, the organisation contributed to shaping more inclusive and gender-responsive ICT policy environments. Strategic dialogues with Members of Parliament, participation in high-level forums, and the production of policy briefs enabled WOUGNET to highlight critical gaps in existing legal frameworks, including the implications of laws such as the Computer Misuse (Amendment) Act. These efforts not only elevated the discourse on digital rights and freedoms but also strengthened stakeholders' capacity to engage in policy processes through a gender lens.
Overall, 2025 stands out as a tremendous year of progress and impact for WOUGNET. The organisation not only advanced gender equality and digital inclusion but also deepened its commitment to ensuring that women and girls are not left behind in an increasingly digital world. By empowering individuals with knowledge and skills, influencing policy and practice, countering digital threats, and strengthening networks, WOUGNET has laid a strong foundation for continued impact in the years ahead.
