WOUGNET at the CSW67

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. It is the largest gathering of the 193 UN Member States and other stakeholders focused on the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Here leaders, campaigners, policy-makers, Civil Society Organisations and researchers come together to take stock of the progress that has been made, and the work still required to achieve gender equality.

The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women. This year, Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is excited to be joining the sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) which will take place from 6 to 17 March 2023 both physically and virtually .

This year’s priority theme is; Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. And, the Review theme is; Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls (agreed conclusions of the sixty-second session).

For the past years, the CSW had only been held with physical participation however with the Covid-19 pandemic which affected the women’s movement and feminist work, the first ever virtual CSW was held in 2021, it was hybrid with sessions mainly held online. The event this year will take 3 (Three) forms; in person, virtual and hybrid.

As Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET), the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a platform to share efforts in achieving gender equality as well as contributing to informing policy on women’s rights in Uganda and across the world.

This year we are honored to speak in 2 (two) different sessions at the CSW67, sharing our expertise in enabling women and girls to use Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) for sustainable development.  The sessions are listed below;
