Strengthening Women’s Livelihoods and Magnifying Resilience to COVID-19 Emergency by Promoting Effective Use of Digital Technologies in Uganda (SMILE)

Goal:
Partners: 20 WOUGNET’s Member Organizations in Northern, Eastern, Western and Central Uganda
Project Overview:
The SMILE project aims to promote a conducive digital environment by supporting staff (women) to access effective and safe internet where there is none or it is unaffordable to use digital technologies to develop their communities and further their rights amidst the COVID-19 crisis. The project aims at equipping and empowering female staff with knowledge, skills, and competence in the use of digital technology for instance video conferencing tools/software and online safety skills as well as enhance rapid localization of COVID-19 information and other human rights-related content to the most at-risk women and girls in rural areas. The expected outcome of this initiative will be an increased number of women enabled to meaningfully access and use the internet and digital technologies to fight and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated effects on the most at-risk population in Uganda. The proposed project will mostly enhance the grassroots women’s rights and feminist-led organizations to mobilize themselves and hold the government accountable for its discriminatory practices. Project Duration: 24 Months (Between 2021 and 2023)
